The Forest Speaks! - Stage Fright

Stage Fright

Have you ever stood on stage, looking down at the audience who are all looking at you and then your mind goes blank. Worse thing is that you have prepared whatever you are on stage for and you knew that you can easily do it anywhere else except on a stage where there are many eyes are on you.

Or maybe you are fine with people looking at you but not people who are going to be judging you. Being on stage with a panel of judges is different from being on stage with normal audiences.

The purpose of being on stage is also a factor to consider. Sometimes, when you are up on stage for fun, you will not have stage fright. But if you are up there for something formal, or a competition, your heart will beat faster than usual, you will be nervous and you will end up not performing to expectations.

I remembered I was in Primary 3 when I was chosen to represent my class for a Chinese storytelling competition. I stayed back for a few times every week to rehearse with my teacher. When it was time for me to stand up on the stage to tell the story which I knew by heart, my mind went blank. I don’t see how I can’t do it when the rest are ok. But when I saw the hundreds of people sitting in front of the stage looking at me, I just can’t speak out loud. I ended up mumbling and stumbling on my lines. For this, I blame it on my classmate. We were both shortlisted by our teacher for the competition, but he got out of it by purposely reading the story badly while I read it as how I would as usual. I was too naïve at that time. If I knew, I would anyhow read the story so that my teacher won’t choose me.

Although that was not my first time on stage, it was my first stage fright experience. It’s because I am up alone on that big stage for a competition, which cause me to be nervous and forgot my lines.

After that, I have been on stage for many other reasons, performance etc. But I did not feel nervous as I was not along on that bloody stage.

When it comes to poly and my course requires many individual presentations, mostly in front of the camera, that nervous feeling came back. During my very first individual presentation in poly, I was really nervous and speak really fast. One good thing is that I did not forget my lines, simply because I did not prepare a script. I did impromptu instead as I have PowerPoint slides to refer to. The rest of the presentations I had after went decently well. There’s another one which is something like news reporting in front of the camera and you have to hold a mike and say your script without looking at it. I managed to memorize my script and finished off that presentation with just a few stumbles.

I thought that I have finally managed to cure myself of stage fright but no. There’s this presentation which it’s a pair work presentation. We are supposed to be emcee and we have scripts to read off. However, half way through the presentation, I actually burst out laughing. Instead of being nervous, I burst out laughing and can’t stop. Well, it’s partially because we had some classmates to pretend to be the Guest of Honors.

Till now, after many presentations and stage experience, I still feel nervous facing an audience be it only 1 person. But I am proud to say that no matter how nervous I still am, I will no longer forget my lines.

What about you? Have you experience stage fright before in any stage of your life? Or are you born to be on stage? If you have, have you managed to cure yourself out of stage fright already?

Do share your views with me~~~ XD

P.S: Do suggests topics for next month too~~ XD

No one is perfect...

I am not perfect, neither am i a perfectionist.

I am aware that my grammar sucks, and need no reminders.

But tell me, what is life if there are no flaws?

There will be nothing to learn from.

Why do we study history?

It is to learn from past mistakes.

Not to follow the footsteps of the past.

If there were no world wars for us to look back and learn.

There will not be peace in the world, instead there will be war all around.

The language that i have used in my blog might not be the best, nor it is up to the normal standards of good English. I have never said it is. But it does not mean that i am not capable of writing good English in other situations.

If blogging requires me to write in perfect, standard good English. I won't blog at all. It will be too demanding. I blog because i can be free in whatever i type. Also, I believe a blog should be conversational to relate to others. It's not that i am promoting 'singlish' or anything. But then, who will speak standard English with friends and family in this country.

Standard English is not something to be used everyday in my opinion. I used it when there's a presentation or when i am speaking to a foreigner or when i am in for an interview or anything formal.

My blog is nowhere near formal, hence i chose not to use standard English in here.

Tell me, who uses perfect English in their blogs nowadays?

Another thing to note, never infer one's language capabilities from something informal like an everyday life blog.

Thank You.

A monthly column???

Hey everyone,
I have decided to make a change for my blog.

Not a really big change, well maybe an addition would be a wiser word to use.

I decided to have a monthly column thing on my blog. Where i will specifically talk about an issue or topic for the month. I am thinking of posting the column at every end of month. I will either come up with a few topics and let you readers chose what you want me to write on, or open up to topics suggested by you readers.

It will be something like reader's choice. You get to chose what topic you want to read on. Of course, everyone will be able to discuss about the topic by commenting and i will be sure to reply.

If this gets popular, i might consider to do it twice a month instead.
I have already thought of a topic for this month. Hopefully, you all will find it interesting. I want topics that are not the norm, small topics like this could be interesting too, i believe.

After the post is out, do give me your honest opinions on what i wrote. I would also like to know if you prefer to suggests topics to me or let me come up with a few and you guys chose.

Another important thing is that, i need a name for my column. LOL~
Any ideas?? XD

Angels and Demons Movie Review

Watched Angels and Demons with a bunch of bloggers yesterday at Shaw House. I kind of have high expectation of the movie since i have read the book twice already. I really like the book and preferred it over Da Vinci Code. I am worried that the movie will not be that good as book adaptions seldom seem satisfactory.

Luckily, the movie was not a disappointment. It was great actually. Although it differs quite abit from the book. I shall say that it's a successful adaption. I enjoyed it alot.

Rating wise, i am giving it a 4 stars out of 5.

I felt that it could be further improved though. Haha~
If only they put Robert Langdon on the helicopter like he was in the book. It would be so much better. Haha, my personal opinion la.

Plus there could be more action. It should be more thrilling, more tense. But maybe the way a book is portrayed and how a movie is is different, which is why the movie is not the thrilling to me. One big factor is that i already knew the story pior to watcing the movie.

If i have not read the book before hand, the movie would be good, just enough thrill and tension. However, as someone who read the book, i must say that it could be better. But overall, it's a good movie.

I recommend this movie to everyone out there. XD
Go watch it, you won't regret it.

Life as an Intern............

Is very tiring...

Having to wake up early in the morning...
Walk 10 mins to the mrt station.
Take the train to amk and change bus.
25 mins bus trip plus 5 min crossing the over headbridge and walking time...

Then worked 9 hours, inclusive 1 hour lunch till 6.30 pm...

Walk to the bus stop, wait for the bus, and hop on for a 30 min bus trip...
(bus in the evening stop more, hence longer trip...)
Then from bus interchange walk to mrt station and take train back to khatib...
Another 10 - 15 min walk before reaching home at 7.35 pm to 8.00 pm.

Dead hungry, dead tired...

Bathe, have dinner watch some TV, on the com for RC and some email checking...
Fell asleep in front of the com for numerous time already...

Tell me, when's the time to blog??

Of course, i am currently a bit free, cause i just finished my tasks...
And this entry takes me only 10 mins or so...

Oh well...

This is actually a ranting post... LOL~~
Sry for not blogging much these days.
Am seriously too tired to really blog about anything specific...

Ok, Ciao~

CONCLUSION:

Overall, i really enjoyed this gathering alot. Despite the fact that dinner at seoul garden is a tad too ex. Nonetheless, i still enjoy myself at the dinner. Met a few new faces this time round and am glad of it. Kudos to Hp for organizing this gathering. You did a great job~~

Please pardon the difference in the sizing of the pictures halfway done... I am tired of going into the html tab and change the sizing one by one. Hence, i just agar agar. :P This is what happens whenever i used photobucket... There's still good points about using blogger's uploading tool, no need to worry about sizing.

Am looking forward to the next blogger's gathering. Hopefully, old and more new faces will attend. XD
